FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT
THE S-ETUKORTTI CARD AND CO-OP MEMBERSHIP

JOINING AS A CO-OP MEMBER

  • Becoming a co-op member involves a deposit of €100 that’s fully refundable if you leave the programme. Paying the deposit in full upon joining grants you immediate access to all member benefits and perks. Alternatively, you can start with a minimum of €20, and the remaining balance is deducted from the Bonus you earn from your purchases until paid in full.

You can join as a co-op member online provided you meet the following requirements:

    • You are at least 18 years old.
    • You have a Finnish personal identity code.
    • You have a permanent address in Finland.
    • You do not have an existing cooperative membership.
    • You have online banking credentials to enable identification and payment of the share capital. You can also use mobile authentication for identification.

S-ETUKORTTI CARD

  • If your card does not have payment functionality, you can order a new cash card through your S User Account. Log in to the service at s-kayttajatili.fi/en and go to “Co-op membership” / “Membership infromation,” where you can place a card order.

You can also order a cash card by calling S Group’s co-op member service at 010 76 5858 on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm (local network/mobile call charge) or by visiting the nearest Co-op Member Service and S-Bank -Service Point (book an appointment).

If your S-Etukortti Visa card or S-Etukortti Debit card is damaged, you can order a new card through S-Bank’s online bank either from the card details or by message, or by calling S-Bank’s Customer Service at 010 765 800 on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm (local network/mobile call charge).

There is a charge for renewing the payment card according to S-Bank’s service price list.

  • First, ensure that you are a co-op member. This is a requirement for inviting your family members to join your co-op member household. Family members do not need to become co-op members themselves – they will receive their own S-Etukortti cards once they are linked to your co-op member household.

Send invitations to your family members by logging into your S User Account at s-kayttajatili.fi/en (Co-op membership/ Membership Information): Click on the “Invite a person over the age of 18 to you co-op member household” link, after which the invitees will receive an email invitation.

Once your family members have accepted their invitations, you can order them S-Etukortti cards via your S User Account.

If a family member linked to the co-op member household wants an S-Etukortti Visa payment card, they can apply for it themselves through S-Bank.

You can directly add underage family members as their guardian by selecting the “Add a minor to your co-op member household” option. Then, you can proceed to order S-Etukortti cards for them.

BONUS

  • In the S-mobiili app: select “S-Etukortti” at the bottom of the screen, then navigate to the “Bonus and Purchases” view.

On the S User Account website: log in at S-kayttajatili.fi/en. You can view your Bonus status by navigating to the “Co-op membership” section in the top menu of the page. This section will be visible to you once you have added your own S-Etukortti card details to your S User Account.

  • You accumulate Refuelling Bonus when you refuel at ABC stations – up to 5 cents per liter. The amount of Refuelling Bonus per liter depends on your household’s monthly bonus percentage. Refuelling Bonus is paid monthly along with the Bonus payments. For example, if all your bonus purchases for the month qualify for a 3% Bonus, you’ll receive 3 cents of Refuelling Bonus for each liter refuelled that month. Refuelling Bonus replaces the percentage-based Bonus on fuel purchases. However, it’s worth noting that fuel purchases are included in your monthly bonus purchases, meaning they also increase your bonus percentage.

Bonus is a percentage-based rebate on all bonus purchases made by your household during the month. The size of the Bonus percentage is determined by the cooperative’s bonus table.

  • Bonus is a purchase rebate, or money that is paid to you as a co-op member benefit from all S Group and partner bonus-issuing locations.

“Bonus tuplana” is a temporary campaign benefit where participating locations pay out Bonus at double the rate. Campaign purchases are registered in bonus purchases as usual, but the Bonus earned from them is paid out at double the rate. This benefit applies only to purchases made at campaign locations during the campaign period.

The bonus percentage is determined by the total amount of bonus purchases. For example, if the bonus percentage for your household’s combined bonus purchases during the campaign month is 3%, you’ll receive 6% Bonus on “Bonus tuplana” campaign purchases.

  • If the Bonuses from your purchases haven’t been transferred to your S-Tili Account, please check the following:

    • Have you paid your cooperative membership fee in full? When you joined as a co-op member, you might have paid only part of the 100 euro membership fee and agreed to accumulate the rest with Bonuses. Once the membership fee is fully paid, the Bonuses will transfer to your S-Tili account at S-Bank. You can check the status of your membership fee and pay it in full if necessary, through your S User Account (log in at S-kayttajatili.fi/en).
    • Are you the main member of the co-op member household? The earned Bonus is always transferred to the main member’s account at S-Bank.
    • Confirm either through S-mobiili app or S-Bank’s online bank that your S-Account is designated as the deposit account for benefits.
  • Bonus is always calculated based on the total amount of purchases made:

When you purchase bottles, the bottle deposit is included in the bonus purchase amount. When you return the bottles, you receive the deposit back, and it is deducted from the total purchase amount.

  • Bonus is not accrued from:

    • Business purchases (Bonus is intended for private households only)
    • Invoiced purchases or contract-priced items
    • Tax-free purchases made at S Group outlets
    • Most brokerage products, such as gambling and lottery products
    • Tobacco products or alcohol
    • Purchases of S Group gift cards (The customer receives Bonus with their S-Etukortti card at the time of purchase when paying with a gift card)
    • Bottle returns (the bottle deposit is included in bonus purchases at the time of purchase)
  • Outlets have no obligation to retroactively add purchases made without an S-Etukortti card to the accrued Bonus purchases.

Please ensure that you have your S-Etukortti card with you and that the card works. You can also use the S-Etukortti card available in S-mobiili through your device’s NFC feature or a barcode. Read more about the various options at: s-kanava.fi/en/bonus-equals-cash/s-etukortti-cards/

E-RECEIPTS

  • With your S-Etukortti card, you automatically receive electronic receipts for purchases made at these locations: S-kaupat.fi, S-market, Prisma, Sale, Alepa, Food Market Herkku, Prisma Rauta, Sokos, Emotion, and ABC.

Note! Electronic receipts are currently only available from physical locations in Finland and S-kaupat.fi. Receipts from other S Group online purchases are not currently added in the Receipt Archive.

Only purchase receipts are stored in the receipt archive; receipts for deposits or withdrawals made at the checkout are not archived.

  • Yes, on your S User Account at S-käyttäjätili.fi/en, you can disable the receipt archive completely or remove individual receipts.

If you completely disable the electronic receipt archive, your purchase and warranty receipts will no longer be saved in the archive. Any receipts that have accumulated up to that point will also be permanently deleted.

After this, you will receive a paper receipt at the checkout, meaning that any previously used paperless transaction option will no longer be available.

    Good to know:

The receipt archive is an integral part of the digital services offered to co-op members of the S Group. The archive is activated when you accept the terms of use for the digital services. A receipt stored in the archive also fulfills the legal obligation to provide a receipt.

The receipt archive is simply a way to store receipts digitally, which would otherwise be automatically printed at the checkout. The receipts are not stored on your device; you can only view them in your personal information on S-mobiili and S User Account. Therefore, they do not take up any storage space on your device.

  • No, they cannot. Receipts from the cashier and warranty receipts are personal. Each co-op member household member can only view the cashier and warranty receipts accumulated from purchases made with their own S-Etukortti in the service.card

  • Follow these steps to opt out of paper receipts:

      1. Log in to your S User Account at s-kayttajatili.fi/en.
      1. Navigate to Co-op membership / Membership information and deactivate paper receipts.
      1. Then, update the Paperless service to your S-Etukortti card: Visit your local S Group self-service point with an S-Etukortti terminal (available at Prisma stores, most S-market stores, and many Sale stores, for example). Insert the S-Etukortti Visa card into the terminal’s chip reader and press F1.
      1. The terminal will notify you when the update is complete.
      1. If you’re using the S-mobiili app, you can also deactivate paper receipts in the “Minä” (“Me”) section of S-mobiili.
From then on, when you use the S-Etukortti Visa card for payment or scan your S-Etukortti card using S-mobiili’s NFC function on an Android device, a paper receipt will only be printed if specifically requested at the cash register. Lear more here

S-TILI ACCOUNT

  • The S-Tili Account is S-Bank’s current account. You can designate your S-Tili Account as the payment account for your accrued cash benefits as a co-op member, such as Bonus, Refuelling Bonus, and Payment method-related benefits. With the S-Tili Account, you can use your S-Etukortti card equipped with a debit feature for purchases, and you can view its transactions online or through the S-mobiili app.

The S-Tili Account is free of monthly and annual fees for co-op members and all individuals within the same co-op member household. One person can have multiple S-Tili Accounts, and you can also grant usage rights to others. Both co-op members and all members of their co-op member household can open an S-Tili Account. For minors, the account is opened by their legal guardian. For more information about the S-Tili Account, you can visit S-Bank’s website: Welcome to S-Bank | S-Pankki

PAYMENT METHOD-RELATED BENEFIT

  • A payment method-related benefit is a co-op member benefit offered by the cooperative, accruing at a rate of 0.5% on purchases made with the S-Etukortti Visa card at S Group’s locations in Finland that fall within the scope of the payment method-related benefit. This means that in addition to earning Bonus on your purchases, you also accumulate a payment method-related benefit when you pay with your S-Etukortti card.

Payment method-related benefits accrue with all payment features of the S-Etukortti card. You can choose whether to pay for your purchases directly from your bank account or with credit. The payment method-related benefit is accumulated on purchases made with all S-Etukortti cards belonging to the same co-op member household.

Payment method-related benefits are generally calculated based on the total purchase amount. However, there are some exceptions. Payment method-related benefits are not accrued on tobacco or alcohol purchases or on intermediary products such as gambling. In S Group car dealerships, payment method-related benefits are accrued on services, spare parts, and accessories, but not on vehicle purchases. In S-Rauta -market stores, payment method-related benefits are accrued on all purchases eligible for Bonus. Please note that payment method-related benefits are not accrued at S Group’s locations abroad or outside the S Group, such as at partner establishments.

You can track your accumulated payment method-related benefits, for example, through S-mobiili and by logging in to S User Account at s-kayttajatili.fi/en. The total payment method-related benefits accumulated from purchases made by the co-op member household during the month are paid into the main member’s account at S-Bank alongside Bonus payments.

MOBILE PAYMENTS

  • Yes, you can also pay with mobile payments at the S Group using mobile payment methods that have a universal payment card behind them. Examples of such payment methods include ABC mobiili app, Google Pay, and Apple Pay.

The payment instrument can be a mobile phone or smartwatch payment app.

MEMBERSHIP FEE

  • The co-op membership fee is a 100 euro investment that makes you a co-op member. This entitles you to your own S-Etukortti card, which unlocks all the benefits available to cooperative members, such as Bonus rewards on your purchases and discounted prices on many products and services.

If you ever decide to relinquish your membership, you will naturally receive back the membership fee you paid.

  • If the deadline for completing your membership fee payment is approaching and you haven’t paid the full amount yet, here’s what you can do:

If you wish to pay the remaining balance of the membership fee, you can do so by logging into your customer account at S-käyttäjätili.fi/en or by visiting the nearest Co-op member Service and S-Bank  Service Point (find the nearest one and book an appointment).

However, if the membership fee is not paid in full by the deadline, unfortunately, according to the guidelines, the cooperative will have to terminate the co-op membership.

RETURN OF SURPLUS

  • The cooperative may issue a Return of Surplus to each co-op member once a year, in addition to the Bonus, provided that the financial performance of the previous year allows for it.

The decision to reward the co-op members with a return of surplus refund is made yearly by the Co-operative’s Council of Representatives.

The Return of Surplus is calculated as a percentage of purchases made by each co-op member at the cooperative’s own outlets during the previous year.

Please visit your own cooperative’s website to check if a return of surplus is being issued.
